Qianna (Nancy) is a therapeutically endorsed, AHPRA-registered practising optometrist, undertaking PhD studies in the FrontTear Research Centre under the supervision of Professor Laura Downie, Associate Professor Holly Chinnery and Dr Andrew Huhtanen. She completed her Bachelor of Biomedicine and Doctor of Optometry at the University of Melbourne, where she developed a strong interest in anterior eye disease, corneal imaging, and translational clinical research.

During the final year of her optometry training, Nancy undertook an overseas clinical placement at Omni EyeCare, New York, USA, where she gained experience across specialised clinical units including retinal care, glaucoma management, and oculoplastic investigations. This experience further strengthened her interest in complex ocular disease and multidisciplinary eye care.

Alongside her PhD studies, Nancy is currently working as a staff optometrist and clinical educator at Melbourne Eyecare Clinic and ACO Eye Health, and as a research optometrist at the University of Melbourne. Her doctoral research focuses on advancing understanding of the relationship between keratoconus and inflammation, with a particular emphasis on identifying disease-specific characteristics of corneal immune cells using advanced imaging techniques. Through this work, she aims to contribute to improved mechanistic insight, risk stratification, and future biomarker development in keratoconus. Her clinical interests include anterior eye disease, ocular pathology, advanced contact lens practice, and myopia control, with a strong commitment to evidence-based care and research translation.

Outside of optometry and research, Nancy enjoys scuba diving in tropical regions and is a passionate advocate for ocean conservation and environmental protection.
