Sue Huynh is a clinical research optometrist and research coordinator in the Downie Laboratory: Anterior Eye, Clinical Trials and Research Translation Unit, within the Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences at the University of Melbourne. She completed a Bachelor of Vision Science and a Master of Clinical Optometry at the University of New South Wales (Sydney) in 2023, where she developed a strong academic foundation in ocular health, clinical assessment, and evidence-based practice.
Sue brings two years of experience as a primary care optometrist in regional Wagga Wagga, Australia, where she provided comprehensive eye care across a broad range of patient presentations. Working in a regional setting strengthened her patient-centred approach and enhanced her ability to deliver high-quality care with professionalism, empathy, and clinical precision. She is a registered optometrist with AHPRA and holds endorsement to prescribe scheduled medicines.
In her current role, Sue supports the coordination and delivery of clinical trials focused on anterior eye conditions, contributing to study implementation, participant management, data integrity, and research translation. She is particularly interested in bridging the gap between clinical research and real-world practice, ensuring that research outcomes are both scientifically robust and clinically meaningful.
Sue demonstrates a strong commitment to continuous professional development and lifelong learning. She is motivated by opportunities to contribute to high-quality, ethically conducted clinical research that advances eye health and improves patient outcomes. Through her work, she strives to combine clinical insight with research rigor, approaching each project with care, curiosity, and a strong sense of responsibility to both patients and the broader research community.
