Yuhang is a full-time PhD candidate in the Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences at the University of Melbourne, supervised by Prof. Laura Downie, Dr Mengliang Wu, Prof. Erica Fletcher and Dr Phillip Bedgood. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy (2022), and completed his Master of Philosophy in Physiology (2025) at Xiamen University, China.

During his master’s training, Yuhang's research mainly focused on the development of innovative therapeutic agents and novel delivery methods for anterior segment ocular diseases, particularly corneal neovascularisation and corneal inflammation. With a background in pharmacy and physiology, he explored drug delivery strategies aimed at improving therapeutic efficacy and modulating the ocular microenvironment.

Building on this foundation, his current PhD research focuses on investigating immune-related changes associated in posterior uveitis using corneal functional in vivo confocal microscopy (Fun-IVCM) and retinal adaptive optics. Using these approaches, his research aims to provide insights into ocular inflammatory processes, and to support the assessment of ocular therapeutic drug responses in inflammatory eye diseases.

In addition to his academic training, Yuhang completed an internship with the Rare Disease team at Pfizer, where he gained exposure to pharmaceutical research and drug development in a clinical and translational context. He is also a Red Cross Society of China certified first aider and has actively participated in public health activities.

Outside the laboratory, he enjoys taking part in sports such as basketball and tennis, as well as maintaining an active fitness routine.
